PROJECTS BASIC SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT

Education is the number one priority in our community. “Starting the children right” is our aim and providing a suitable environment for the nurturing of our children is our number one priority. Over the past two years we have worked to ensure that the Basic School is now a “model” institution, thanks to grant funding from national and international sponsors. Children enjoy modern conveniences, equipment, resources and a qualified teacher.

With prize monies from the BEST Community competition, the School now has a garden in which organic vegetables are grown to aid the nutrition of the school population.

PAROTTEE ROUND-ABOUT

The round-about at the entrance to Parottee continues to be a focus for beautification. This site is cut regularly by the McCains who, as members of the Society, have volunteered time and effort to keeping our “gateway” beautiful. The site offers a sight for sore eyes to residents and visitors alike.

SPORTS FIELD AND SPORTS CLUB

The Society supports sports development in our community and acquired lands at Hill Top to provide a sporting facility. Over the past two years, funding for this project has been difficult to get but the land has been cleared and prepared, ready for equipment to be installed. It is hoped that football and netball will be available for the youths in the near future.
The Youth Club is thriving with two teams of footballers. They have also a thriving 4H Club which offers training and motivational activities aimed at social and economic development. Meetings are held weekly.

BEAUTIFICATION OF LITTLE BRIDGE
The Society continues to lobby the National Irrigation Commission to regularly clean the drains from Little Bridge to ponds beyond Spice Grove to reduce the threat of flooding of some homes at Hill Top.

PROSPERITY PARK

The community now has its own Park on the Beachside. The facility was developed through funding from the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica and prize monies from the Digicel BEST Community Competition. The Park is very much a work in progress as it requires a lot more infra-structure to make it truly a place to be proud of. However, it now has sanitary facilities, water and electricity and a stage. The Park had its grand opening on 13th December 2009 with a Health Fair and Fun Day sponsored by the Ministry of Health. The event was a tremendous success and saw the community turning out in force as well as persons from surrounding areas. Medical checks including HIV/AIDS tests were carried out for participants free of charge on the day. The Youth played volley ball and beach football and the children had great fun on the Bounce-about. The Park will provide a much needed space for social interaction and is ideal for fun days, parties, beach sports etc. This is a very exciting development for our community.
